In year 6, some of our more avid readers attend a weekly book club. So far this year, we have read some fantastic books; the group favourite being Goodnight Mr Tom (we challenge you not to cry!)
As part of book club, we are always interested in expanding our range of reading but also sharing this with others so when the Portico library in Manchester told us about the Sadie Massey competition for young readers we were very excited. The competition was called “My favourite book” and we had to write a short book review about exactly that. What was lovely was that pupils picked a range of books across different genres – enabling us to get some new recommendations for reading!
Our book reviews took us a couple of lunchtimes to complete and were really impressive- feedback from the library was very positive so well done to all who entered.
Recently, Miss Cotton received an email from the library saying that the entries were very impressive and a winner was even from our book club! One of the prizes (a generous book voucher) went to Joseph Ogden in 6C for his hilarious review of ‘The amazing Maurice and the educated rodents’ but all pupils were congratulated for their efforts. The prize giving afternoon culminated with a tasty blueberry muffin too which was definitely a lovely end to the afternoon.
If you are even unsure of what to read next, don’t hesitate to pick the brains of one of our book club members! Have a look at Joseph picking up his prize below.
