#ReadingRocks16

Yesterday Miss Kingsley and Miss Zauscinski travelled to The District CE Primary School In Newton-le-Willows, Liverpool for an amazing event called Reading Rocks. It was a day of workshops and presentations for teachers all about reading in the primary school.

The school is an amazing place with a huge focus on reading. We loved exploring the beautiful reading garden and relaxing in the reading hut!

Miss Kingsley enjoyed sharing lots of ideas for reading across the curriculum with KS1 at her workshop. Here is a video of her presentation:

The teachers enjoyed seeing examples of work produced by Year 1 pupils at Russell Scott.

We attended some very interesting workshops on storytelling, comics, picture books and developing a love of reading . We have lots of ideas to share back at school!

Miss Kingsley spent her voucher on two new books by authors Adam and Charlotte Guillain and then we went to see them talk about some of their fantastic books.

Sadie Massey Young Reader Awards

Six Year 5 pupils visited The Portico Library for the launch of the Sadie Massey Awards for Young Readers and Writers which aims to encourage a life-long love of reading. The pupils listened to local authors talk about their favourite books before hearing about how to enter the Sadie Massey Young Reader Awards by writing a 300 word review of a book that they have read. We look forward to entering this competetion and have high hopes of winning a prize for school. We hadbetter get reading!!!
